A rookie-built robot went 1st place in the world.
Cool Name Pending is a FIRST Tech Challenge team from Leap Hub Education. In their DECODE season, they went from States to the World Championship in Houston — and now they're gearing up for what's next.
Excellence, community, and innovation — in that order of daily practice.
Built to compete, not just participate
From prototype to Worlds, the team holds itself to a competitive engineering standard — testing, iterating, and documenting every subsystem.
Outreach isn't an afterthought
Workshops, demos, and mentoring for younger students are part of the season, not a box to check for judging.
Solving real problems with robots
The team's projects extend beyond the competition field — building tools and solutions inspired by needs in their own community.
A rookie team that didn't play like one.
Cool Name Pending is one of the FIRST Tech Challenge teams run through Leap Hub Education, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit STEM hub. Guided by mentors Ravi and Mala, the team built its DECODE-season robot from the ground up — and carried it to the World Championship in Houston in their very first year.
Fifteen students handle everything from CAD and CNC fabrication to autonomous programming and competition strategy, with strong support from parents and the wider Leap Hub community.
"We build the robot. But what we're really building is each other."
Gearing up for BIOBUZZ.
The DECODE season is done — the next FIRST Tech Challenge game, BIOBUZZ presented by RTX, kicks off September 12, 2026. It's part of the biodiversity-themed FIRST CANOPY season, and the team is already preparing.
